Those who have input for the State of Oregon on the Dispensary Laws, now is the time to weigh in! Send your comments and concerns to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Some things you might address are:
When you provide your own Cannabis to a business such as ours, you should not be forced to have it tested for mold/mildew/pesticides nor should you ever be forced to have it tested for THC and CBD content.
There's a huge conflict of interest when the head of the ACMM owns a testing facility and is on the rules committee for creating dispensary rules, and the rule is testing, testing, testing. Was this conflict addressed?
As it is written, no minors, even if they are the patient, may be onsite at a dispensary. That means those parents who have young babies who stop in to pick up their Smokeless Cannabis Remedies will have to arrange daycare. Please tell why this is so, when CANNABIS CANNOT KILL YOU BY OVERDOSE yet everything in a pharmacy could kill you ... and people of all ages can enter those establishments.
There is more ... but this is a good start. Feel free to send copies to your representative as well as the Governor, and THANK YOU for taking action!
To avoid testing requirements, cardholders must have their Cannabis to us on or before Tuesday, February 25th, 2014, and it will need to be picked up the following week, on or before Monday. We will be working overtime and will convert as much as we can for as many as we can. First come, first served ... Please call or email to schedule your appointment so we are able to better help you. 541-981-2620 or email email@example.com
Thank you! Additionally, please continue to make noise about the unfair testing requirements being levied on patients!
Tom.Burns@state.or.us and Rep.firstname.lastname@example.org have received numerous emails. Now that I see the list of who was on the rules committee, we have several more names - so I'm guessing one would be email@example.com Mr Buckley is Canna-friendly, he may be able to help? He is from Southern Oregon. They are getting irritated, and tired of hearing from us - but that's too bad. The law has not gone into effect yet, and now is the time to stop it before it starts! Heck, I think you should tell Todd Dalotto how you feel about it. He owns CAN Research in Corvallis ... is the Chairman for the ACMM, and of course was on the Rules Committee to determine testing requirements. CONFLICT OF INTEREST, MUCH?! Here's his link - it has a contact us button but the phone number is 541-752-9053. http://canresearch.net/research/laboratory-analysis-/
He's even reduced some prices. Maybe it's beginning to dawn on him how dirty this really looks...
In 2013, I applied to be on the ACMM (Advisory Committee on Medical Marijuana) in hopes of being closer to the source and providing recommendations to the dispensary rules committee regarding Smokeless Cannabis Remedies and people bringing theirs in for conversion. I received a rejection letter in August 2013 (copy available on request). Funny thing is ... it doesn't appear they even filled the position ... no one else apply or what?!
Below is a list of the people who were on the Rules Committee, feel free to contact each and every one of them to let them know how you feel about this and the Conflict of Interest and what it will cost YOU for YOUR monthly medicine.

If we're friends on facebook you already know this... but to quote a post, "Kyle Odegard from the Albany Democrat-Herald contacted me today. He's wanting to do an article about how the dispensary laws will affect us at Albany's Canna Kitchen & Research, LLC. He's scheduled to be here tomorrow at 1 p.m. I wonder if he'd like to talk to a few patients, too? I bet he would!!! Anyone want to give their opinion on how they feel about the mandatory testing of Cannabis, even if you bring your own for conversion? Let me know!!"
You may also know that I had a call from Representative Olson today - he is wanting to help patients out, and "carve out part of the law" but that wouldn't be until 2015. Since it hasn't gone into effect yet, it can be stopped before it does, right? So ... keep sending the letters, we are being heard! I know that many of you cannot afford what it will cost for testing, so if you want to make a difference, you will want to stand up and make some noise!
Friday afternoon I was able to speak with Tom Burns, the man in charge of the Pharmacy program in Oregon. I called him at Rep. Andy Olson's suggestion ... as I was concerned about what I'm reading in the rules for dispensaries that has come out. Tom didn't have any good news for me. I emailed this information out today, but if you aren't on our email list, you didn't receive it. For those of you who did, I am sorry for the duplication, but we've got to get the word out to everyone we can.
At this point, we are not sure what we will do at Albany's Canna Kitchen & Research, LLC (ACK&R). There are lots of options, and we're seeking information on various issues. Our goal is to continue creating custom Smokeless Cannabis Remedies for our patients. We simply cannot absorb the cost of the testing we are being told that will be required, and we cannot imagine how they can force a grower to have their own homegrown tested. Does it make sense to you? Stand up and shout!
Pasted below is the email I sent to members today. If you would like to be on our email list, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will add you.
Subject: HELP! Canna Conversion prices could triple!
Date: Mon, 17 Feb 2014 11:50:31 -0700
Dear family and friends,
As suggested by Representative Andy Olson, I spoke with Tom Burns, the head of pharmacy at the Oregon Health Authority regarding the "Dispensary Rules" requirements because I was concerned about what we are facing.
According to Mr. Burns, businesses like Albany's Canna Kitchen & Research, LLC (ACK&R) were not considered when the OMMP dispensary rules were made. Therefore, there were no provisions made for people bringing their own Cannabis to a business such as ours for conversion to a Smokeless Cannabis Remedy (SCR). In light of this, as of March 3rd (two weeks from now) ALL Cannabis that is brought to us for conversion will be required to be tested for mold, mildew, and pesticides and once it's converted it has to be tested for THC and CBD levels. Are you prepared to pay $100 or more in addition to the $50 you are paying for 100 capsules? I didn't think so, so I am informing you and letting you know what I believe will help.
You need to send an email to Representative Andy Olson (he was the elected official on the dispensary rules committee) at email@example.com with a courtesy copy (cc in your email) to firstname.lastname@example.org Let them know that you have been using Smokeless Cannabis Remedies from ACK&R, LLC and that you are appalled that they will require patients who bring their own to be tested at a cost of more than $100. If you have grown it, you know what has been sprayed on it, etc... and are not going to spray something that is harmful! Additionally, is it important to you to know the THC and CBD levels? Sure, it's nice to know information, but do you really want to have to pay to have each and every product you have converted tested? ACK&R can't afford to have testing done without passing on the cost ... so it is IMPERATIVE that you stand up and shout at the top of your lungs that this is UNACCEPTABLE and must be dealt with immediately. They were fully aware of our operation and what we do when they created these rules.
Know that this is scheduled to go into effect in TWO WEEKS on March 3rd. Also ... we are being forced to apply as a dispensary at Albany's Canna Kitchen and Research, LLC ... which will mean some changes. Not all of these changes are known at this time, but if you would like to read what we are facing as far as rules and regulations, you will find them here: http://www.oregon.gov/oha/docs/333-008-FINAL-MMJ-DISPENSARY-RULES.pdf (ADDED: This is the link for the FAQ's, it's much easier to breeze through: http://www.oregon.gov/oha/mmj/Documents/MMD%20FAQ.pdf )
Thank you for your help with this, we will march forward in one way or another. We are excited for what the future brings, we just don't feel you should be required to have all this testing done ... it isn't going to be cheap. We will be doing all that we can to keep prices down.
Be sure and get your product in EARLY this week to ensure processing prior to 3 March. This is serious stuff! Appointments are needed, call to make yours - 541-981-2620. If we are not available, leave a message with which day and time you would like to come in and we will call and confirm. Thank you!
Rhea & Kendra
This fantastic day started with a phone call from a man we have coached through treating his prostate cancer ... the tumor is gone! He is very excited and can you blame him?! Using the capsules as suppositories made this cancer go away in short order. People also do not get so high from the dose when used as a suppository.
We were cruising through the day and a young woman came in ... I had been thinking about her last night and the pain she must be in (I knew of her from an article in the paper). She had heard about us from a friend and needed the paperwork for her doctor - so it was quite awesome when she came in. She has an incredible amount of pain and knows that conventional medicine is not what she needs as this will be long term.
My work day had the perfect ending when I called a patient to let her know her order is ready for pick up and she told me how much the capsules have changed her life for the better and how her doctor is just amazed at how much her stomach has repaired ... she has been on prescription medication for years and years ... and her stomach was shot, but is nearly 100% healed now! She also told me she loves us. Truly loves us for the difference we have made in her life.
We never grow tired of hearing those sweet and kind words. We have made a huge difference in a lot of lives, and that's exactly what we plan to continue to do. Smokeless Cannabis Remedies are the answer to what ails you ... just ask any one of our patients!
If the weather warms enough for the snow to melt, we will be open on Monday, February 10th. We feel bad that we haven't been there getting your orders done, but ... Albany was pretty much at a standstill for the past four days. The picture is one my sister Jill took here in Albany... I haven't been outside yet!
Blessings, and we are looking forward to seeing you, soon. Please tell a friend!
We are very sorry ... but we will be closed due to the snow today, Thursday 6 February. Please call to reschedule your appointment or call to schedule your next one. Additionally ... as noted in my last blog, you will want to get your product in as early as possible this month - and this weather isn't helping any!
Just so you know ... I will also be sending an email - I am recommending you get your product in for conversion before too late in February. With the new dispensary bill, (which may affect us even though we are not a dispensary), we may have to close for a time after licensing requirements are submitted and we wait to be approved. I have no idea how quickly or slowly that will happen.
In the meantime, I am working on penning a letter requesting permission to stay open in the interim, at the very least for existing patients. I will also be asking you to send a letter to our representatives or whoever may hold the key to that answer. It is not acceptable for them to force our patients to "smoke pot or do without" while the paperwork flows. This new bill causes all kinds of security requirements and whatnot which seem just insane to me as we have been operating safely and efficiently for over two years now.
So, if you will please keep Albany's Canna Kitchen & Research, LLC in your thoughts and prayers as we move forward it would be greatly appreciated. Also, as I said, you will want to bring your product in as early as possible this month. You do not have to pay until you pick it up, of course, but pickup may be necessary before March 3rd. Thank you!
I'm Rhea ... I own the place. My beautiful daughter Kendra and I opened Albany's Canna Kitchen & Research, LLC on 11/11/11. She grew up, married, and moved away ... life has continued and we've had to make a number of changes and adjustments to continue. I am very excited to be teaching people how to make life-changing, life-saving Smokeless Cannabis Remedies.
